Initial situation
Costa Rica is putting itself on the map as an eco-friendly destination, aiming to become the world’s first zero carbon nation. With the tropical rainforest on site, and the sustainable measures of the master plan, Nüesch Development taps into this idea of “green” tourism. Even though there is already an existing touristic industry in the area, there is no real attractive product for those seeking a more luxurious and high quality alternative, with the majority of local establishments oriented towards back packers, surfers and yoga culture.
Concept
The development will consist of individual plots, ideal for private residences, and a common area with a mountain lodge. While enjoying the cooler climate and the best views from the hillside, a direct road will connect the Swiss Resort to its own beach house, located right on the white sand of Surfers’ beach. Swiss Resort Costa Rica will be the first resort of its kind in the Americas, combining sustainability with first class architecture and services.
Realization
The improved master plan, reorganizing the resort in a condominium structure is already being developed together with the local authorities. Approval is expected by summer 2015. First investments will be aimed at improving and extending the existing infrastructure on site. The next step will then be the construction of the common areas: mountain lodge and beach house. With the individual plots already on the market, demand will increase once construction on these common areas commences. The Kick-Off investment will be 10m USD for the common areas and 15m USD for improving infrastructure and sustainability.
